About
Robin's sister, Laurel, is the store manager and brings her creativity and people skills to the business, and her mother, Rina, is a local artist. "Laurel is my right hand woman and keeps things running when I’m away or am consulting in the Bay Area. We’re both very fortunate to have our mom involved because she really inspires us and is our biggest supporter. She has been selling her artwork to people in the community for years and her hand-made items are at the shop, with the biggest selection available during the holidays. She teaches some of the artistic classes we offer."
The name Serendipity was chosen because life is so unpredictable and full of surprises. "Even though we don't choose everything that happens to us, I believe we can help others by sharing our experiences." says Robin. "Change can be challenging, but it can also bring wonderful new opportunities."

Sometimes an opportunity (or "serendipitous moment") suddenly presents itself. That is what happened to Robin Carlen, a Bay Area based Career Consultant who works with outplaced professionals and career changers. Robin took the advice she's given to clients when it comes to pursuing a dream or accomplishing a goal: 'Take one step at a time, and keep moving forward even if you're unsure of the outcome and are shaking in your boots.' In August of 2010, she opened Serendipity Gift Shop in downtown Hollister.
